About the Artist
Kay Jeansonne was born in the heart of Cajun country near Lafayette, Louisiana. As a child she spent weekends on Bayou Courtableau fishing, water skiing, and exploring nature. Her interest in art began at an early age as she watched her dad paint the wildlife of the rich swamplands of Acadiana.
Kay's interest in art continued to develop at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. At LSU she studied intaglio, lithography, and painting. She also later received a Master of Education degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana.
Kay now resides in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She studied at Cottonwood Artists' School for seven years, where she attended workshops with Matt Smith, Skip Whitcomb, Kim English, and Ken Auster. Her work includes landscapes, still lifes, and figurative paintings in oil, as well as figurative sculpture in bronze. In 2001 Kay gave up a 16-year teaching career to pursue her dream of painting full-time. She became the owner of Cottonwood Artists' School in 2002. Kay is a member of Oil Painters of America and has been invited by Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters to participate in paint-outs and shows.
Selected shows include: 2007 Oil Painters of America Exhibit, Fredericksburg, TX; 2005 Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters Show, Elk Horn Gallery, Winter Park, CO; One Person Show at Gallery West, Denver; Pikes Peak Center, Colorado Springs; Business of Art Center, Manitou Springs; and Cottonwood Artists School, Colorado Springs.
